Populating Free Address Book
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to populate the Free Address Book except by importing from another file. Clicking on tools does nothing.
Sorry, I don't understand exactly. How do you mean, that you click on Tools and does nothing?

free address book portable
I unpacked FreeAddressBook portable, and then copied it to a unique folder. Running the program gives an "error"dialog in what appears to be Turkish or Hungarian, ending in English "connection String." The program runs fine from the original unpacked destination.
This error is coming, when the AddressBook.exe.config file is not exist or it is corrupt. Please check that the file is there in the program directory. Sorry for the error message. We will replace the messages as soon as possible.

A question about notes, I can not copy or paste any thing but instead I get this "Masolas" Message. Can you explain, Thanks.
Yes, sorry about that. The "Masolas" mean Copy. In the next version (which will be 1.4.6.1.), we will replace the message, and add the Paste too. So, you can use the "Masolas" or the CTRL+C buttons to copy the text, and for the Paste use CTRL+V buttons.

List of addresses
A simple requirement, how do I get the program to open showing a list of ALL addresses in the data base?
In the group selector, select "All contact groups". This will show all addresses (contacts) from the database.

Import Issues
My client has over 2,000 contacts.
1. Testing I find that this only imports to around 100 contacts instead of the 580 contacts I have in my export sheet. (Excel CSV). Cannot find the problem. Need answer quickly.
2. After import, there are several records that went wrong. Some show Last Name as a state, some show Zip code in Company Name, etc. Maybe only 20 imports did this. Checking my source CSV file, there is nothing at all wrong. Everything is where it should be. How do I correct this? Need answer quickly.

NOTE: I resolved this! Found FreeAddressBook import does NOT like null or empty fields! Filled these all in with, "Unknown" and all 572 imported with no errors!
